There are not many SUVs that can keep up with the Grand Cherokee when it comes to off-road capabilities, and this premium vehicle also performs well on the road. The 2020 model received just a few updates, including a new power sunroof for the Limited and Trailhawk models, and a new Premium Lighting Group is now available. Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Grand Cherokee comes in seven different trim levels. The Laredo is the base trim with 17-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, and foglights. The Limited adds an auto-dimming mirror for the driver's side, a power liftgate, and the option for a panoramic sunroof and LED fog lights. Bump up to the Overland to make the Limited options standard, or you can choose the Summit for interior upgrades. The Trailhawk is the off-road model and comes with off-road tires, underbody skid plates, and an adjustable air suspension.
To upgrade the performance, choose the SRT trim. This model has summer performance tires, a sport-tuned suspension, a sport body kit, and adaptive dampers. The Trackhawk upgrades the suspension, and it gets Brembo brakes along with high-performance tires with lightweight 20-inch wheels.
Engine (Power)
The base Grand Cherokee has a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that delivers 295 horsepower. Choosing the Limited or above gets you the option for a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that generates 360 horsepower, and if you bump up to the SRT, it has a 6.4-liter V-8 under the hood. This powertrain develops 475 horsepower, but if you want any more, the Trackhawk has a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 with 707 horsepower.
Performance
No matter what engine you have with your Grand Cherokee, it has plenty of power. Upgrading to one of the V-8 options will increase the towing capabilities and increase the acceleration power. The ride on the road is smooth, but this luxury SUV can take you off the road too. There are several four-wheel drive systems to get you over rough terrain and traction management to give you better grip.
Interior
The two-row Grand Cherokee seats five passengers, and the cabin has an upscale feel. The base Laredo has dual-zone automatic climate control. As you move up through the trims, Jeep adds comfort and convenience features such as leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, heated seats, and power-adjustable front seats.
The technology includes a 7-inch touch screen in the base, with an 8.4-inch touch screen in the Limited and above. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both come in every trim along with the Uconnect infotainment system.
Safety Features
All the Grand Cherokee trims have a rearview camera, and every model has rear parking sensors. Add the Active Safety Group for forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, emergency braking, and a rear cross-traffic alert system. This group also adds adaptive cruise control, automatic windshield wipers, and lane-departure alert. An active parallel parking system is also available as part of the package. This group is an available option for the Limited, Overland, and the Trailhawk, and it comes standard on the higher-end trims.
