Best barbecue spots in Manning, SCAlthough there is absolutely nothing wrong with steaming-hot curry, a juicy piece of steak, or a thin-crust pizza topped with your favorites, there are days when all one craves is authentic wood-smoked barbecue accompanied by Southern-style comfort food. On days like these, you’ll want to check out one of these top-quality barbecue joints in Manning.

  1. McCabe’s Bar-B-Que

When the McCabe brothers established McCabe’s Bar-B-Que about 30 years ago, they decided to leave the cooking in the capable hands of their mother, Jessie McCabe. Today, 90-year-old Mrs. McCabe is still cooking all the delicious food served at McCabe’s Bar-B-Que. That’s right, the barbecue at this establishment is prepared the McCabe-family way! You won’t, for instance, get a choice of sauces with the smoky pulled pork. You’ll be served the one sauce that Jessie has prepared for the dish — and it’s so delicious that the lack of choice won’t even cross your mind.

Apart from the succulent barbecue, the buffet at McCabe’s also boasts traditional Southern favorites like turnip greens, coleslaw, hush puppies, green beans, sweet potatoes prepared with sugar, cinnamon, and butter, and the piece de resistance — Jessie’s famous fried chicken.

This small venue is cozy and welcoming, and seeing that just about everyone who works at the establishment is a McCabe, you’re assured of friendly and attentive service. McCabe’s is open Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  1. D & H Bar-B-Que

Locals say that at D & H Bar-B-Que, a locally-owned barbecue joint that opened its doors in 1947, you’ll find the best barbecue and fried chicken in town. In fact, the South Carolina Barbeque Association thinks so too, as D & H Bar-B-Que has made it onto their list of Top 100 BBQ Houses in the state.

The buffet at D & H is loaded to the brim with delicious Southern comfort food, including BBQ pork, mac ‘n’ cheese, potato salad, green beans, and stewed tomatoes. On Tuesdays and Saturdays starting at 5 p.m., seafood dishes, like large shrimp and fried clams, are also added to the buffet selection.

D & H’s venue is an old ex-fast food drive-in joint, so it’s a bit on the plain side. However, the friendly service, delicious food, and affordable prices more than make up for the lack of aesthetics. D & H’s is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  1. JK’s House of Ribs

JK’s House of Ribs boasts a small and cozy venue where you can sit down for your barbecue fix. On the menu are old-time favorites, such as pulled pork, brisket, and ribs, which you can enjoy with sides like green beans, onion rings, coleslaw, mac ‘n’ cheese, baked beans, and cheese sticks. Of course, if you’re craving something beyond barbeque, you can instead opt for a juicy burger, hot dog, or some Southern-style chicken. JK’s is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

These barbecue joints don’t only offer traditional barbecue prepared with patience and care, but also cozy venues and friendly service, which all together make for the ultimate Southern experience.
