Hiking is a great way to get close to nature and release yourself from the rigors of everyday life. Within easy reach of Manning, South Carolina, are some awesome parks with hiking trails offering a variety of scenery and terrain. Here are some of the best places to hike. Poinsett State Park A little over a half hour drive west from Manning is Poinsett State Park on the edge of the Manchester State Forest. It offers over 1,000 acres of diverse landscape with more than 25 miles of hiking trails. Some trails connect to the Palmetto Trail which takes you through the Manchester State Forest. The hiking areas include the Scout Trail, Hill Top Trail, Laurel Group Trail, and the Coquina Trail. Along the way, you can enjoy the serene setting of the 10-acre Poinsett Park Lake, visit the 1930s coquina bathhouse, and the ruins of the pre-revolutionary grist mill. There is a variety of wildlife habitat in the park and over 300 plant species. Woods Bay State Park A similar distance to the northeast of Manning is the 1,590-acre Woods Bay State Park. The park provides the opportunity for you to get a close-up look at one of the last Carolina Bays remaining in the State. The landscape features oak-hickory forest, sandhills, marsh and shrub bog. Hikers can follow the 0.9-mile Mill Pond Nature Trail, or you can take the 1,150-foot boardwalk which offers the opportunity to see alligators in the cypress-tupelo swamp. Other wildlife you might spot includes more than 80 species of birds, raccoons, otters, tree frogs, and various snakes. more Santee State Park Santee State Park is located on the western shore of Lake Marion, South Carolina's largest lake, which was created in 1949 to provide hydro-electric power. The 2,500-acre park is approximately 30 miles south west of Manning and offers four easy to moderate hiking trails covering more than 10 miles. The twisting trails will take you through thickly wooded areas with mixed pine and hardwood, and around swamplands, ponds, and sinkholes. At some points you'll have spectacular views of the lake and the cypress forest that flourishes in the middle of it. The lake habitat makes this an ideal location for birdwatching. Santee National Wildlife Refuge Located on the north shore of Lake Marion, the Santee National Wildlife Refuge is around 15-miles south of Manning. Set in 13,000 acres, the refuge is divided into four units and features forests of pines and mixed hardwoods, old croplands, marshland, and open water. Over 10 miles of hiking trails meander through this beautiful refuge. While hiking, you can visit the Santee Indian Mound, a ceremonial temple and burial site dating back over 1,000 years. During the Revolutionary War it was used by the British as an outpost named Fort Watson. Wildlife species you might see include 45 mammals, 54 reptiles, and almost 300 birds, depending on the season. These stunning locations provide great hiking, and most offer camping facilities enabling you to turn your trip into an overnight adventure. 2020-Jeep-Gladiator-Pickup-Silver

Why You Should Be Excited for the Return of the Jeep Gladiator

In 2005, Jeep shook the world of pickup trucks with the Jeep Gladiator. Fifteen years later, the company is doing it again with the all-new, all-powerful 2020 Jeep Gladiator, which is slated to roll into dealerships in Spring of 2019. The new Gladiator is a hot topic for our team and we can't wait to get behind the wheel of this unstoppable truck. Here are just a few reasons why you should be excited about the return of this iconic pickup: Best-In-Class Everything Everyone expects a Jeep to be massively capable, and the 2020 Gladiator will do that trust justice. Thanks to Jeep's keen eye for performance engineering, the Gladiator will have a best-in-class towing capacity of 7,650 pounds, which is enough to handle most adventurers' gear. Drop the tailgate and load up the Gladiator's truck bed — it has a best-in-class maximum payload rating of 1,600. The 2020 Gladiator will dominate the midsize pickup world. Off-Road Like a Wrangler As expected, the Gladiator will have Jeep's four-wheel-drive system that will allow it to tackle terrains more than any other truck. Simply put, the 2020 Gladiator will be the most off-road-capable truck in its class, period. It's equipped with great gear that helps it earn this title, such as lockable wide track axles, FOX shocks, an electronic disconnecting front sway bar, and much more. more Interior Excellence The Gladiator is as impressive on the inside as it is on the outside. The available leather-trimmed seats, slick console design, and spacious interior all lend themselves to an unforgettable ride. Go with the soft top Gladiator to open up the cabin for a real safari feel. Strip the truck of its doors and fold the windshield down to become one with the outdoors. The available 8.4-inch touch screen is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can access many of your phone's features through your truck — look up directions, make hands-free calls, read your text messages, listening to your favorite music and podcast streaming apps, and much more. An available Bluetooth wireless speaker is removable, so the music doesn't have to stop when the Gladiator does. Customize It To Fit You One of the greatest aspects of the 2020 Gladiator is you'll be able to build one that fits you perfectly. Begin forging your Gladiator by choosing between the four trim levels: the Sport, Sport S, Overland, and top-of-the-line Rubicon. Give your truck life with one of seven exterior paint colors and four interior colors. From there, you can equip the Gladiator with the numerous packages Jeep offers, such as the cold weather group, trailer tow package, premium LED lighting, the Jeep Active Safety Group, and more. With so many options, it will be difficult finding two Gladiators exactly alike. When the 2020 Jeep Gladiator comes out this spring, we'll be excited to experience this revolutionary truck for ourselves. Make sure you stop by Santee CDJR for a test drive of the most off-road-worthy midsize truck on the market. Why the Jeep Grand Cherokee One of the Best SUVs on the Market

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been one of the most sought-after midsize SUVs since its 1993 debut, and it's still going strong today. The 2019 Grand Cherokee is the next best iteration of the model line, and it's already taking the world by storm. Here are a few of the reasons why the Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the best SUVs on the market: Ultimate Power The 2019 Grand Cherokee's four-engine line-up lets you choose between two powerhouses. The base-level 6.4-liter V-8 engine delivers a ready-for-anything 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. If you need even more power, go for the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine, which packs an all-powerful 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. Even with the weakest of the four engines, you're looking at 295 horsepower, which is nothing to scoff at. When properly equipped, the Grand Cherokee has a 7,200-pound towing capacity, which can handle most road trips, whether you're taking the boat to the lake or moving across the country with a trailer. Jeep-Level Capability Not much feels more secure on the road than a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Its four-wheel-drive systems can handle some of the worst weather conditions, maintaining grip on the road and sending torque to the wheels that need them the most. The available Selec-Terrain Management System lets you tell your Grand Cherokee how to prepare for the road ahead. If you're forging your own paths in the Grand Cherokee, you're in luck. Its available adjustable suspension system lets you increase or decrease your vehicle's height to emphasize clearance or improve aerodynamics. The skid plates protect the SUV's undercarriage. Available tow hooks let you assist weaker vehicles in their times of need. The Jeep Grand Cherokee owner is a handy friend to have around. more Style, Inside and Out The 2019 Grand Cherokee stays true to its heritage as one of the most confident vehicles you'll find on the road. Chiseled lines shape its muscled stance. Its sculpted LED headlamps and taillights maintain a signature style that's recognizable even in the cover of night. Simply put, the Grand Cherokee looks how it feels — tough, and powerful. But, don't judge a book by its cover — the Grand Cherokee's interior is just as impressive. Great tech, such as the 8.4-inch touch screen that's compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, premium available Uconnect navigation system, voice-activated command technology, and more let you stay connected and entertained more than ever. But, comfort matters too, and the Grand Cherokee has plenty of it to go around. It seats five people in expertly crafted seats. The available ventilated and heated front seats and steering wheel let you stay comfortable during the harshest weathers. The 60/40 split-folding rear seat lets you make extra room for cargo, and the storage compartments throughout the cabin let you organize and stay prepared. 5 Historic Sites Worth Visiting in the Manning Area

The Manning area has a rich and colorful history. Discover why the area was so important in the growth of our nation, through the American Revolution and beyond. Here are five of the greatest historic sites in the area to learn about how our country, state, and the city grew into the great places they are today. Trinity A.M.E. Church The Trinity A.M.E. Church, built in 1874, is a great way to discover the rich history of the Manning area. Soon after the Civil War, 50 men and women recently freed from slavery bought the land in 1870 to build their church. They had been holding their religious services in a stable and wanted an official place of worship. The original frame building built here burned down in 1874, but another frame replaced it the same year. In 1914, the building was covered in brick veneer, which is how it stands today. Francis Marion Reflections This historical marker and mural was built to commemorate the American Revolution. In 1780, General Francis Marion successfully fought and successfully pushed back the British in the area. Marion, known as the "Swamp Fox," is a national hero who helped pave the path for America to gain its independence. The mural depicts him and his men in the Black and Santee River Basins. This mural is part of a collection that commemorates General Marion's work for our country. From here, you can visit his statue, the Swamp Fox Mural, the Ambush at Half-Way Swamp Mural, and more. Take a tour of the city's great historical reminders of how our nation became what it is today. more Manning Library The Manning Library was built between 1909 and 1910 in the Classic Revival style. If you're a fan of architecture and beautiful buildings, this is a great place to explore. Stepping into the library is like stepping back in time to over 100 years ago. Its beautiful columned facade and one-story structure tell a tale of the state's heritage and history. Pleasant Grove School This historical site represents an important part of South Carolina's history. This school was built after the local school district bought the land in 1933 to be the new home of their school for African-Americans. It closed down in 1953 when it had five teachers who taught 159 students. It's now a community center and a reminder of the area's history. Battle of Fort Watson and Santee Indian Mound The Santee Indian Mound was built for one of the greatest chiefs of the Santee Native Americans. It was then used by the British during the American Revolution to police the Santee River and the road that connected Charleston and Camden. In 1781, this post was taken from the British — the first one to be taken in South Carolina. It's a great monument to America's success in the war. Give yourself some extra time to explore all the history and culture the Manning area has to share with you. You can spend an entire day learning about the history of the area through the many historic sites that were erected to remind us of our varied, proud history. All trims offer the option for the My Sky open-air sunroof, which includes a power vent-and-slide panel along with two large removable panels. It comes with an automatic stop-start system along with active aero shutters right in the grille to help increase the fuel efficiency. The Technology Even dad likes to play with the latest technology, and the 2019 Renegade has plenty. Winter driving tips in Manning, SC

Winter Traveling Tips in Manning

While it doesn't snow very often in Manning, SC, it is still important to know how to drive on snowy, slippery roads when it does happen. The winters in this part of South Carolina bring temperatures down into the mid-30s, which also means there is the possibility for ice on the roads. When you travel through the area during the colder months, make sure you are ready for anything. Follow these winter traveling tips when passing through Manning, SC. Pack for All Conditions Even if your trip starts in an area where it is warm, you will want to plan for any type of weather and pack cold weather clothes. In many parts of the country, the weather can change quickly. Make sure you have a winter jacket, gloves, and a hat in the car and always keep a blanket with you. If you pass through Manning on your way north, you will also want to pack items such as a shovel, a cell phone charger, and sand or kitty litter in case you need to get out of a slippery situation. more Check the Forecast Ahead of You Always look at the weather not only in the area where you are starting your trip but also where you're heading. It is so easy to see what is coming, even when you are already on the road, so take advantage of it. If severe weather is coming in, you can either delay your trip by a day or two or leave early if you can beat a storm. Driving on Slippery Roads The key to safe driving when the roads get slippery is slowing down. It is also important to know how to stop on an icy road. If you have ABS brakes, apply firm and steady pressure on the brake pedal. The ABS system will take care of pumping the brake for you. If you drive an older model that does not have ABS, pump the brakes to keep the vehicle moving in a straight line. Always leave extra time to stop, and keep in mind that if the roads have ice on them, it does not matter if you have all-wheel drive, four-wheel-drive, or two-wheel drive. The vehicle will slide. Pack an Emergency Kit It is a good idea to have an emergency kit in the car no matter what time of year you head out on the road. The kit should include a flashlight with working batteries, an air compressor, a first aid kit, jumper cables, some basic tools, a utility knife, and first aid supplies. You should also keep food and snacks in the car so you have something to eat if you run into any problems. Pack a few energy bars, water, and some other snacks that will stay good for several days. South Carolina may not be the first city that comes to mind when you think of snow, but it pays to be prepared. Follow these winter traveling tips for a successful winter road trip through the Manning area and beyond.   Image via Pixabay.com | CC 0 | Cropped from original
